Brown Girl Dreaming

Author: Jacqueline Woodson

Genre: Autobiography/Poetry

What this book is about: The book is about the author, describing growing up in different places. Jacqueline Woodson talked about school, religion, and finally realizing her dream of becoming an author. The book is written in free verse, which can sometimes confuse the reader.

Your opinion: I really liked the book. I liked how it was written in free verse, which makes the information of the autobiography waayy more interesting to read. I didn't like how she talked so much about church. I know it was a big part of her life, but I personally thought she kind of overdid it.

Rating: 4 out of 5 stars

Who would like this book: I think this book is for 2nd grade and up, only because some of the words would be hard for 1st grade and under to understand.
